Wreck This Journal: An experiment in haphazard creativeness

By on May 24, 2013

Dear Diary,
It is day one of my Wreck This Journal Experiment and I will never be the same again. For years I painstakingly wrote in journal after journal, only to stop 1/3 of the way through, never to be completed. Those journals have haunted me. But now, what is this? A journal that encourages creativity and imperfection? A journal with which a misspelled word or a flubbed letter is mere artwork? Tis the journal I have been searching for.

Admittedly, I thought I would hate Wreck This Journal. The idea of being told “what to do” concerned me. But instead, I am inspired. I love this journal. This can only further my creative juices.

And more importantly? I don’t feel obligated to be perfect. I’ve scribbled and scrawled my favorite song lyrics all over this thing. While some pages might not seem to serve a purpose (re: the page where you stick fruit stickers. Literally stickers from your actual bananas, oranges, etc), others are inspiring.

There are no limits if you don’t limit yourself.

  1. I’ve just started my Wreck This Journal, I’m loving it! (I’ve found it quite satisfying collecting fruit stickers, perhaps it appeals to my tidy mind!) The most difficult one for me so far has been taking it into the shower with me, fortunately it seems to have survived quite well.

    1. Oh the shower! I have not tried that one yet! It seems risky. 🙂 I think the biggest risk I took so far was the page for sticky things. I drew a heart with honey and closed the book. It oozed out the page and onto the sides.

      Thanks for commenting, Jennifer!
